Started in 2013 by Mary Fannin and Christina Fannin Keller. A mother-daughter duo.
In 2012, my mom, Mary Fannin (a 2x breast cancer survivor) was diagnosed with Stage 4, in-operable, non-smoker’s lung cancer which metastasized to the brain a year later. During this time, we were supported by friends and family all over the United States with so much love and prayer. Mom and I wanted to pay it forward so, we started a blanket ministry for children fighting cancer or other health battles. We decided to call the blanket ministry “Sunshine (my nickname) & Butterfly (mom loved butterflies) Blanket Ministry”. I did not know how to crochet at that time so we made no-sew fleece blankets and sent them to the children/family going through a battle for free so they knew they were not alone.
When my mom’s health started to take a turn, we put the blanket ministry on hold so we could focus on her. In August 2022, my mom gained her angel wings. On the anniversary of her departure in August 2023, I felt a tug at my heart to restart the blanket ministry. 2 Weeks later, I got a call to pray for someone as she was in her second battle with cancer. That call was my confirmation to restart the blanket ministry but this time, no age limit, making crochet blankets, and in honor of my beautiful mother, Mary Fannin.
I will be selling blankets, which are listed on the “Available Blankets” page. Each blanket sold allows me to give a crochet blanket for free to those who are fighting cancer or a serious health battle (i.e.: a Soldier; Fire/Rescue, loss of a loved one in the line of duty) and may need a little extra reminder that they are never alone. I will post the pictures of the blankets I send below.
If you know someone who is fighting cancer or a serious health battle and could use a warm blanket hug to remind them they are not alone, please reach out to me at usefulyarn@gmail.com
With Personal Protective Equipment exceeding $13,000 per firefighter and Volunteer Fire Departments being financially challenged, every dollar counts to help purchase necessary equipment and gear. With the history of volunteer firefighters in my family, as well as my husband and son currently serving, I sold blankets and donated the profits to my local fire department.
If you are interested in purchasing a blanket with the profits going to Bungay Fire Brigade or YOUR local fire department, reach out to me at usefulyarn@gmail.com
Recently a local family lost a teenaged son. He gained his angel wings in August 2023 against brain cancer. Below are the blankets that I sold and was able to donate all profits to the family to help with medical bills.
